Q:How can I download TRANSFORM-DBS data?
A
: First, one must register for an account as only registered users can receive access to the data files themselves. Registration information is solely used for reporting aggregate statistics to the project funding agency. Registration information is not rented, sold, or otherwise provided to anyone outside of the project. Once you have logged in, click the “Apply for Data Access” link on the right-hand side under User Tools and fill out the provided form. This provides the project with contact information of the requester and information on the intended use of the data. Upon submission of this information, it is reviewed by the project Principal Investigators and the requester is notified by email of their decision. If the decision is to allow access, the "Download Data" icon will become active and the user will be able to place data in his/her cart for download after digitally signing the TRANSFORM-DBS Data Use Agreement. The Globus data transfer software is used by the TRANSFORM-DBS project for the download of data. You must sign up for a Globus account and install the light Globus client on the computer that will be used to receive the data. Once you click "Download Data", the requested data will be transferred to the TRANSFORM-DBS shared endpoint (transformdbs#martinosglobus), and an email notification will be sent to the requester when it is ready to be transferred from the shared endpoint to the requester's personal endpoint (requester#my_computer). More specific information can be found on the Globus website (www.globus.org) and this document.

Q: Do I need complete a TRANSFORM-DBS registration form to search the data?
A
: No, one does not need to register for an account to be able to search the TRANSFORM-DBS data collection. However, less information is available to an anonymous user than to a registered user. Only registered users can receive access to the data. Registration information is solely used for reporting aggregate statistics to the project funding agency. Registration information is not rented, sold, or otherwise provided to anyone outside of the project.

Q: Will I be notified if data that I have downloaded is modified in some way?
A
: Notification will only occur if the person who downloaded the data has opted into the notification system. This can be done during the data download approval process.

Q: How can I share the results of a search with others?
A
:The "Shared Search" capability allows the results of searches to be named and saved. The goal of this functionality is to allow you to create a data collection with specific data and then share that collection with others, simply by sharing the name of the search. This is useful, for example, in the construction of algorithmic challenges in which different algorithms are run against specific datasets. In that case, one wants to provide specific data sets to others (e.g., subject_x, subject_y,...) rather than simply a collection of subjects with specific properties (e.g., ages 30-40) that may change as new data is entered into the system. When naming a Shared Search, be descriptive so that you can easily find a specific search in the future. All Shared Searches stored in the system are available to anonymous users. You can also retrieve a list of the Shared Searches that you have created from the Shared Search page.
